Challenges:

  • Brand new building in need of network infrastructure.

  • Several changes to the overall construction schedule throughout the project that DTI had to work around.

  • Multiple MAC (moves, adds, and changes) that increased the work, but not the due date

  • Coordination with multiple trades to get the work done.

Benefits/Results:

  • The students and staff were empowered by the access to the wide area network (WAN) and the internet for learning and research purposes.

  • DTI’s work was delivered on-time and within budget.

Overview:

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is the third largest school district in the country, with over 350,000 students, over 600 schools, over 40,000 employees and a budget of $7.7 billion in 2019. One of CPS’ new school construction projects was the Ogden Elementary School.

DTI was selected as the low-voltage contractor in 2012 for all network infrastructure wiring, including the wiring for all backbone and horizontal cabling, for the Ogden Elementary School. In the past, DTI provided CPS with voice/data, CATV, and fiber optic cabling for existing schools throughout the city.

.

DTI’s Roles

As a subcontractor to Connelly Electric, DTI’s responsibilities included the following:

  • The buildout of the MDF (Main Distribution Frame) room and IDF (Intermediate Distribution Frame) Concentrator Boxes.

  • All backbone cabling, which consist of fiber optic cabling, CATV cabling, and CAT5e multi-pair cabling.

All horizontal voice/data/CATV locations in all of the classrooms, offices, and underground parking garage.
